Chris has always been creative by nature. When he was growing up he did a lot of painting and building of things that as he put it “were of marginal value to most.” He became a machinist by trade. Somewhat dissatisfied with his life in Sacramento, Chris moved to Austria in 2002. While in Austria, Chris got married and started a family. Chris took up pipe smoking while in Austria. He found he could not afford the pipes he really wanted, so he started carving his own. Chris was heavily influenced by Peter Matzhold, who he visited several times. As he became more proficient at carving pipes, Chris started selling them to friends. He decided he wanted to make pipe carving his profession. In 2008 Chris moved back to Sacramento. He began carving pipes in earnest. Chris’ pipes show his artistic background, and have a Danish flare. His stem work is phenomenal. You can find Chris’ pipes exclusively at the Briar Patch.
