Hand Made in Dominican Republic
Coticas is a new blend from an old cigar family in Santiago, Dominican Republic. Produced by Puros De Villa Gonzales, this cigar is among the first we are now seeing with an excellent new Sumatra wrapper. The Santiago factory of Puros De Villa Gonzales has been growing tobacco for over 70 years, and is currently operated by Don Leocadio Pena, master tobacco grower and torcedor. Leo learned the cigar trade from his father and grandfather, who learned from their fathers.
The cigar is characteristically spicy, but not the kind of spice you get from under-fermented tobacco, such as is the case with so many cigars rolled today. All the tobacco - filler, binder, and wrapper, are grown on family plantations, which they have been farming for as many years as the family has been in the tobacco business. As Leo puts it: "As I was sampling the final blend, I saw a Coticas bird. Realizing how rare it is to get a flavor as nice as this, I named the cigar Coticas, after one of the rarest birds in my country!"
