"OH, WHAT A NIGHT!"
Long Vineyards - Joseph Phelps Vineyards - Whitehall Lane Winery

Dear Wine Associates:
"Oh, What a Night" we have planned on Tuesday, October 16, 2001 as we present three of Napa Valley's finest wineries, three outstanding guests and 14 superb wines, including many new releases and preview showings. Our special guests for this seminar, all of whom have been here numerous times and whom we consider our friends, will include: Bob Long, co-owner of Long Vineyards; Tom Shelton, President and C.E.O. of Joseph Phelps Vineyards; and Tom Leonardini, owner of Whitehall Lane Winery.

LONG VINEYARDS, established almost 25 years ago by Bob Long and Zelma Long, is a gorgeous property situated on the eastern side of St. Helena atop Pritchard Hill overlooking Lake Hennessey. Bob, Zelma and Winemaker Sandi Belcher have produced some of California's greatest wines, from their superior estate-grown Chardonnays, Johannisberg Rieslings and Cabernet Sauvignons to their creative Italian varietals. Their Chardonnays are known for their elegance, finesse and long ageability while their Estate Cabernets are supple, complex and highly rated. We are delighted to have the charming and garrulous BOB LONG on hand to comment on four of his wines, including his intriguing 1997-98-99 Red Table Wine (a blend of 50% Sangiovese and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon -- and very reasonably priced) and a preview of the dynamic 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon.

JOSEPH PHELPS VINEYARDS, founded by Joe Phelps in 1972, is located in the beautiful Spring Valley area of St. Helena. He has always produced excellent Napa Valley wines displaying his innovative spirit and passion for quality. He pioneered a number of "firsts" in the early years: the 1974 Insignia was the first Bordeaux-style blend produced in California under a proprietary label and the release of his 1974 Syrah sparked industry-wide interest in this Rhone varietal. Friendly and personable TOM SHELTON, who's lovely wife Laurie is expecting a baby within the next few weeks, has promised to make his best effort to join us as we present an intriguing array of Phelps Rhone varietals as well as preview showings of their spectacular 1999 Insignia and 1999 Backus Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon.

WHITEHALL LANE WINERY, owned since 1993 by Tom Leonardini, sits in the heart of Napa Valley's Rutherford appellation. The winery is producing a diverse portfolio of exceptional wines, many of which have received the highest accolades. Twice in the last few years, two of their wines have been in the Top 10 of the Wine Spectator's "Annual Top 100 Wines"! We are so pleased to have TOM LEONARDINI return to The Wine Association to help us present four of his gems, including the exciting 1998 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.
