Cheers from the Duke of Bourbon!

What a wine!! 2001 Artemis, a new Cabernet Sauvignon from Stag's Leap Wine Cellars has arrived. This is an outstanding wine from one of the world's premiere wineries. Named for the Greek goddess of light and hunt, Artemis is called a 'wine of brightness' by Warren Winiarski, the winery's proprietor.

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars has long used fruit for its Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from the finest vineyards representing the best that Napa Valley has to offer. (Of course, they also produce their renowned SLV, Fay and Cask 23.) Their focus on this wine is changing slightly from having a representative style (of Napa as a whole) to wine showing a balance of harmony and tension, of power and suppleness. Although SLWC will continue to use some fruit from different parts of the Valley, a significant portion of the juice for Artemis will come from estate properties, particularly the famed Fay Vineyard. Artemis is bottled in a very classy bottle with the familiar SLWC stag emblem embossed just above the label.

To quote Warren: 'The nose is filled with the fragrance of violets, raspberries, rosemary and truffle, with a core of black plum. More black fruit blossoms on the palate, yielding flavors of black cherry and a touch of cassis, shot through with a delicate overtone of vanilla. The firm tannins carry through to a satisfyingly spicy finish. This beautifully balanced wine will marry well with both traditional holiday favorites, such as rare prime rib and roast turkey, and with less obvious pairings, including seared Ahi or swordfish with a savory shallot sauce or with a rich white truffle risotto.'

We tasted Artemis along with samples of the Fay and SLV bottlings and were delighted with the comparison. The Duke has 2001 Artemis at $45.00 per bottle with a special 6-pack price of $239.94 ($39.99 per bottle). You lovers of SLWC's high-end wines should not pass up this offering.

Please take a few minutes to read the extremely interesting attachment about Warren Winiarski, our close friend and a true icon of Napa Valley, and his very special project, Artemis.

Then call the Duke and order your share.
