Cheers! from the Duke of Bourbon

The quality and value of Spanish wines is not a well-kept secret any longer thanks, in part, to the Duke's efforts. We have a new vintage of a top-notch Spanish gem that we featured last year from the famed winery Bodegas Muga located in the growing region of Rioja. Here, long growth cycles ensure that grapes and all their components reach a delicate, prolonged and complex state of ripeness which is, without a doubt, the key to the region's potential for producing some of the world's most exquisite wines. Over the years, Muga wines have gained international recognition and acclaim and, along with the previous vintage, the 2002 version will only add to the legend.

Bodegas Muga 2002 Reserva is our topic for the day. Here is what Robert Parker had to say about the 2001 vintage as he awarded it 92 points: "Readers should be purchasing the 2001 Muga Reserva by the case. It is a stunning, unfiltered Rioja made from 70% Tempranillo, 20% Grenache, and the rest Mazuelo and Graciano. A big, rich bouquet of raspberries, cherries, graphite, and tobacco leaves is accompanied by abundant fruit, an expansive, medium to full-bodied palate, elegant, lush flavors, sweet tannin, and hints of cedar and white chocolate. This beautiful Rioja should drink well for a decade." Parker has yet to taste the new vintage, but our contact at importer Jorge Ordonez says "the 2002 vintage of Muga Reserva is the equal of the 2001" and "may turn out to be even better." The staff here at the Duke just had a chance to taste it and sagely opined, "WOW!!"

It is rare to hear such raves about a wine in this price category and this is your chance to attain another Duke speciality - outstanding value-to-price ratio. The Duke is able to bring this Spanish gem to you at $21.99 per bottle. Buy a 6-pack and save an additonal 5%. If you follow Parker's advice and buy a case (or more), the Duke will make the price just $19.99 per bottle!
