Cheers! from the Duke of Bourbon
We are all aware that the 1997 vintage in Napa Valley was a benchmark year and produced wines of finesse and power that will be exceptionally long-lived. One of the foremost examples of the quality is Robert Mondavi 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon, Reserve. Robert Parker was effusive in his praise when he tasted it in barrel: "The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is considered by Tim Mondavi to rival the great Reserves made in 1987, 1990, 1991, and 1994. I can't say I disagree. The wine boasts a saturated, thick-looking black/purple color, as well as fabulously unevolved, but beautiful aromas of creme de cassis that soak up the 100% new oak aging. The wine has a fabulous palate presence, explosive richness, gobs of glycerin, marvelous extract, and superb purity. The moderately high tannin in the finish is barely discernable at this stage in the wine's development. Weighty yet impeccably well-balanced and defined, this appears to be a sumptuous Cabernet Sauvignon that will be relatively drinkable upon release." He later tasted the finished wine, awarded it 95 points and opined: " The profound 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve boasts a saturated ruby/purple color. Production of this sweet, opulently-textured, rich, full-bodied wine should guarantee widespread availability. Aged in 100% new French oak, this blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot offers a textbook varietal nose of cedar wood, licorice, creme de cassis, and pain grille. Full-bodied, with explosive sweetness and fruit on the attack, this gloriously pure, superbly well-delineated wine should be drinkable young, and last for 3 decades. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2025." Now, we find ourselves well within the maturity window described by Parker with the good fortune to have a re-release of this iconic Napa Valley wine. The Duke has a miniscule allocation available. The winery values this gem at $150.00. The Duke's price is $125.00 per bottle or $750.00 per 6-pack case. We have not yet placed a limit on orders, so you must hurry to make sure you get your share. Note: Prices are good while our supplies last and we reserve the right to change them at any time without notice. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity! Call the Duke today!!
