Stagecoach Vineyard sits majestically on the eastern side of Napa Valley. From its higher elevations one can see southern Napa Valley, the bay and, on a clear day, clear into the city of San Francisco. Nearby are famous estates: Dalla Valle, Chappellet, Bryant Family, Colgin, Long Vineyards and David Arthur. Stagecoach is home to over a half-million vines whose grapes are integral to the wines of Caymus, Duckhorn, PlumpJack, Chappellet and Paul Hobbs, just to name a few. Black Bart 2006 Marsanne is a beautiful, brilliant yellow with a nose of honeyed orange and almonds that simply explodes from the glass. You can taste ripe peaches and apricots on the palate and the finish is loooong. The texture of the wine is striking - succulent and creamy, but with a core of minerality that shines through. The wine is built for food - elegant and crisp enough for oysters dressed in Champagne vinaigrette or dayboat scallops in tarragon butter, but with enough body to stand up to roast pork loin or a cheese souffle. One of the staff commented, "A white wine for a red wine drinker!" Another noted, "Perfect for the white wine drinker who is looking for an alternative to Chardonnay."

The 2005 Advocate from Dr. Jan Krupp and his brother Bart's Gold Series showcases the grapes from the legendary Stagecoach Vineyard, which ascends from 900 feet above sea level where it adjoins the Oakville appellation of 1,700 feet on the southern side of Pritchard Hill. The intense, rocky soils are ideal for this unique blend of Petit Verdot, Merlot and Malbec. All three varietals are densely planted using the best French clones. Raspberries, violets, lavender and cranberries give way to fine rich tannins that frame the mouth perfectly. Serve with Duck confit and cherry glaze or hard cheeses such as Asiago, Parmesan and Romano.
