Dear Wine Associates:

It is FALL and we have some CLASSIC guests from some CLASSIC wineries with some CLASSIC wines ready to show their "stuff." Please join us on Thursday, October 28, 2004, as we welcome TOM SHELTON from JOSEPH PHELPS VINEYARDS, FRED BRANDER from THE BRANDER VINEYARD and GEOFF RUSACK & JOHN FALCONE from RUSACK VINEYARDS. These winning wine teams will present an exciting line-up of wines that you won't want to miss.

JOSEPH PHELPS VINEYARDS, founded by Joseph Phelps in 1972, is located in the beautiful Spring Valley area of St. Helena. The winery has always produced excellent Napa Valley wines displaying innovative spirit and passion for quality. They pioneered a number of "firsts" in the early years: the 1974 Insignia was the first Bordeaux-style blend produced in California under a proprietary label and the release of their 1974 Syrah sparked industry-wide interest in this Rhône varietal. President and Co-owner Tom Shelton has been a great friend to the Duke of Bourbon, having joined us for many successful dinner and seminar events over the years and making his truly CLASSIC wines readily available to our customers. We are happy to welcome him back to share his dynamic Phelps line-up, including a vertical of three vintages of the famed Insignia (one a barrel sample) and a barrel sample of the extremely rare 2002 Backus Cabernet Sauvignon.

THE BRANDER VINEYARD, founded in 1975 by another long-time friend Fred Brander, was one of the original estates established in the Santa Ynez Valley. Fred, who will be on hand this evening, has built a reputation as one of California's top Sauvignon Blanc producers and is known as "Mr. Sauvignon Blanc." He is also a master at making red Bordeaux varieties and has created an awesome 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon from his own tiny plot of old vines on the Quinta Los Olivos vineyard. Fred's line-up will include his CLASSIC Sauvignon Blanc 2002 Au Naturel, which is considered one of the world's finest in its category, his 2000 Dos Mundos Malbec, produced by Fred in Argentina, a very special offering of his 2001 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon from Quinta Los Olivos and a 2004 (yes, 2004!) Early Release Sauvignon Blanc.

RUSACK VINEYARDS, nestled in the picturesque Ballard Canyon area of Solvang, was established in 1995 by Geoff Rusack and his wife Alison Wrigley Rusack with a commitment to producing top-quality grapes and outstanding hand-crafted wines. As well as their estate vineyards, Rusack sources grapes from some of the best and most famous vineyards on the Central Coast. Under the direction of Winemaker John Falcone, this small winery produces limited quantities of excellent Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs, Syrahs and Bordeaux-style wines and is on its way to becoming a world-class wine estate. Geoff and John will join us to display a CLASSIC line-up of Rusack wines, including their 2002 Anacapa, an elegant Santa Ynez Valley meritage, and four other formidable entries.
