How to Refresh a Cigar's
Taste when Relighting
Here's an amazing way to restore a cigar that has gone out. After you've relit it and it's going well, put it in you mouth, but DON'T PUFF ON IT until you've done this:
Gently remove the loose, gray ash. Hold a lighter under the end of the cigar, until it blossoms into flame, which will be bright yellow. Hold the lighter there and blow-hard enough to see the flame shooting out the end like a little blowtorch. You may be able to take the light away without the flame going out. Keep blowing hard, for maybe fifteen seconds, until the flame takes on a definite blue color. It probably will get smaller and perhaps even flicker out. Now taste it. Miraculous! You've burned away all the tars and sooty taste.
You can refresh a cigar that is burning unevenly, or a cigar that has passed the midpoint and tasting strong. Simply blow steadily into the cigar as above - you don't need to relight the end. You can do this two or three times as you pass the midpoint of a smoke and it really gives the cigar a new life. When it no longer is effective, the cigar is finished.
