Carrrington was the first private label that Mom's Cigars ever made, and it continues to be our most popular. Over the years it has been made in several factories, for both quality and availability purposes. But no matter who has made it, Mom's Cigars has always taken pride in selling these cigars, because we feel that they are both a great cigar and a great value (I like them so much I even named my cat Carrington!). The brand comes on 8 sizes in natural, and we have just introduced, after 5 years of experimentation, 3 sizes in Maduro. If you try them, we are almost positive that you will like them (and if you don't, send them back and I will smoke them myself).

Evelio Oviedo, the master roller of our new super-premium Honduran puro, comes from a Cuban cigar making family. He gained his experience while working for 23 years at the H.Upmann factory in Havana. in 1961, as the head of the Cuban rollers' union and under intense pressure from the Castro regime, moved to Las Palmas, Grand Canary Island. There, the owner of th H.Upmann and Montecristo brand - Mendez and Garcia - had Oviedo open a factory for them. After running this factory for 11 years, he was hired to open facilities for La Insulara Tabacalara and developed the Montecruz, Flamenco, Don Marcos and Don Miguel brands. Soon after, he established the German-owned La Breman Alimania facilities. One year later, he left the cigar industry and moved to New York City.
Unhappy with not being in the cigar industry, Evelio was off to Brazil with th Menendez organization to open a facility at San Gonzalo Dos Campos. After opening this factory, he moved to Miami with the intent of permanent retirement. Nestor Plascencia, however, had other plans for Evelio. While experiencing some mysterious production problems with one of his brands, he sought the reputed master to come down to Honduras and help solve the problem. While there, Nestor told Evelio of his groups dream to produce cigars with original Cuban Quality and workmanship. His love for the "old ways" was inspired and with the assurance that he would be given total control over the process to ensure it duplicated the original Cuban style of cigar making, he agreed to assist with the setup of Nestor's new facilities to produce these exquisite cigars. Using a naturally sweet Ecuadorian wrapper, Evelio and Nestor Vintage are as close in taste and quality to the 1960's Havanas as Evelio's experience and our money could provide.

I can't begin to tell you how honored I am that my bosses Mark and Alex Goldman have allowed me the privilege of writing some copy for this new catalogue. Of course, this honor and privilege (i.e. 'extra work') was bestowed upon me without the benefit of financial renumeration (i.e. 'money'), so here goes.
Now if you were a major force in the cigar business for the last 35 years, would you put your name on a cigar that stinks? I doubt it! So, let's see... Hombre de Oro... I think that means 'man of gold' in Spanish. Hmmmmm...man of gold...Goldman...hmmmmm... Could it possibly be? Hey, if I could figure this out, how come I can't figure how to get paid for this??? The Nestor 747 is a cigar that was developed out of devotion for the old 'Cuban style' of cigar making. The new Nestor 747 Series II Vintage 1989 is the second generation of the Nestor 747 cigar project and is boxed in cabinets of 50 cigars. Intended to be laid down and aged, the cigar uses a vintage crop of 1989 tobacco for it's wrapper. Unlike the original Nestor 747 which is a box pressed (squared) cigar, the Series II are left in their original cylindrical state.
The naturally sweet, super-premium Ecuadorian wrapper is the secret to this cigar. When Benny Gomez found this wrapper, through a leaf merchant who represents a small consortium of growers in Ecuador, he committed to every leaf that the growers could produce on behalf of the same group that brought the original Nestor to life.
The tobacco that is used for the binder and filler has been aged for a period of 6-7 years before it was rolled. Once the cigars are rolled, the bunches of 50 cigars are put back in the aging room for another nine months prior to boxing. This process insures that the tobacco has married into a unique blend that we are sure you will enjoy.
Key to the cigars appeal and uniqueness is the tremendous amount of expertise and care that goes into making this cigar. When the group that formed one fateful night over a lobster dinner determined that they would be doing a vintage series of the Nestor 747, they provided the resources for master cigar-maker Nestor Plasencia to build a new facility at his rolling factories in Danli, Honduras. In order to ensure the stringent quality controls that the group demanded, they hired two industry icons to oversee production, Evelio Oviedo and Ernesterio Fife.
