Seattle Smokers
The Seattle Smokers is the cigar and pipe club in the Seattle/Tacoma area. We started the group in response to the $75 and $100+ cigar dinners where you ending up getting a mediocre meal and a pathetic cigar. There are never any dues or fees and all are invited. It is BYOC/BYOP. We meet every month, always at a very cigar friendly restaurant that has opened its doors to us. We tend to meet during the week, so it can be a bonus for the restaurant on an otherwise slow night, but they never require a minimum per check. Most people eat dinner and drink (and we've been known to party until closing in more than one lounge), but it is never required. Feel free to drop by and join us. For more information, email Board Members Dale D. Taylor or Bobby Holstein or Billy Gard. If you are interested in getting on the Seattle Smokers email list, fire off a message to Bobby with a subject line of ADD SEATTLE.

There are reports of some people having trouble finding the cigar lounge, because it's not in the cigar-friendly museum bar. It is
actually accessed from the non-smoking section of the dining room. Go up the ramp to the left of the "museum bar" entrance. It
has leather furniture, a TV, and a big window looking into the museum bar. Ask a server if you can't find it.

It may be a good idea to begin somewhere in the pool table area, as we did

Pike Pub & Brewery
Now after a rather eventful two-month rest, the fall chill is making me
nostalgic for the old cigar meetings. So let's give the Seattle Smokers an
October relight.
Let's go for Wednesday the 10th at 7pm at the Pike Pub & Brewery in the Pike
Place Market. All interested cigar/pipe smokers and appreciators welcome. A
good place to start would be in the dedicated cigar lounge. They might serve
us food there, but if not we can move into the "museum" section.

Hope you all can make it. See you then!

August 2000
Greetings gang, I am finally back in the world of e-mail. For August we are going to do something a little different. I have two SS meetings planned. First, the regular meeting of our little group of puffers will be as follows.
Wednesday, August 16th, 7:00pm
Rock Bottom
We've not been downtown in a little while so I thought it would be nice to go and sample the current brew offerings at the downtown Rock Bottom. Would the first ones there please try and snag us some outside seating, (weather permitting)? Otherwise, the bar is fine.
Tuesday, August 15th, 6:00pm
The Wooly Toad at The Golf Club at Newcastle
Second. Now oddly enough, the second opportunity to smoke actually precedes the first and will give those of you lucky enough to attend something great to talk about at the second.
I have made arrangements with The Wooly Toad cigar bar at The Golf Club at Newcastle to allow "a small group" of Seattle Smokers to use the facility.
I have room for TEN (10) attendees.
If you have not had the opportunity to visit "The Toad" then I highly encourage you to express your desire to come to this special meeting. Read on for instructions on how to be one of the ten.
IMPORTANT NOTE!
There is a dress code at the Newcastle and at The Toad.
NO DENIM (JEANS), NO TENNIS SHOES (SNEAKERS) AND SHIRTS MUST HAVE A COLLAR.
Think Dockers or other slacks, polo shirts, etc... Business casual or appropriate golf attire.
Now, who gets to go?
The first ten people who e-mail me directly will be selected for this go around. Those of you who "miss the cut" will, I hope, have another opportunity in the future.
Please RSVP to DaleDTaylor@MSN.COM no later than Friday, August 11th. Include the subject line Wooly Toad. I will announce the selected via e-mail and provide additional information, driving directions, etc...
Hope to see lot's of faces at our two August meetings.
Dale.

Bridges Bar & Grill
The July Seattle Smokers meeting will be held at Bridges Bar & Grill, located on Eastlake Ave., just before the University Bridge. Look for us outside on the deck as Bridges no longer accommodates cigar smoking inside. If the weather does not cooperate (i.e. raining), we will shift our plans to McCormicks Harborside. Hope to see you all there!

Wednesday, June 14th, 7:00pm
Tir Na Nog Irish Pub
This Wednesday, June 14 at 7:00 p.m. we will be meeting at Tir Na Nog Irish

January 2000
Wednesday, January 12th, 7:00pm
Tir Na Nog Irish Pub
I was downtown today and came across some workers installing a bronze plaque. It said, "On This Site (Seattle) New Years Eve 1999, Nothing Happened."
No parties, no bombs, no fires, no riots. Yes folks, it seems that our fair city is Y2K compliant.
Moving right along... it's smoker time.
Tir Na Nog is located on the North West corner of First Ave. and Columbia in downtown Seattle's Pioneer Square area.
I have had two discussions with them about this and am certain that they are c-gar friendly. So come one come all to our first gathering of the new century, if not the new millennium.
Hope to see you there!
December 1999
Tuesday, December 7th, 7:00pm
The Quiet Bar in the Bellevue Double Tree Hotel
Well gang here it is, another timely notice about the next gathering of the Seattle Smokers! Sign... I'm really going to have to make a millennium resolution to do a better job about getting this message out earlier.
After the events in town this week I'm sure we could all use an evening to sit down and relax and take a collective breath. Fortunately we have just the opportunity coming up.
The December meeting of the Seattle Smokers will not be held in Seattle but in Bellevue. We will gather at... The Quiet Bar in the Bellevue Double Tree hotel on December 7th, no riots. Time is the same as always 7:00 PM.
Our theme for this meeting will be... "Where were you when the tear gas came through?"
Hope to see you there.
November 1999

September 1999
Thursday, September 9th, 7:00pm
The Pike Place Pub
Well, we had a pretty good meeting on the 12th. 18 or 20 people were in attendance to brave the elements on the deck.
For the September meeting, to make things interesting, we have decided to have a longest ash contest. Everyone is requested to bring a Puros Indios #2 Especial. This lonsdale size cigar is a manageable size for everyone, reasonably priced and was rated a 91 by Cigar Aficionado. Pick up one at your favorite smoke shop. We'll compare tasting notes, how much we paid, etc....and have the long ash contest.
Also, while we are smokin', let's go around the table and share the following tale with all:
1.What was your best ever cigar smoking experience?
2.What was your worst ever cigar and/or cigar smoking experience?
Hope to see you all at The Pike Place Pub in September.
August 1999
Thursday, August 12th, 7:00pm
McCormick and Schmicks Harborside
The envelope please.
And the winner of the "What Were You Thinking?" award goes to...
"ME!"
Since I have been severely admonished for planning our August (warm weather) meeting indoors (FX McRory's), and since I don't want to be greeted there by an angry mob wielding pitchforks, torches, tar and feathers - I have decided it would be wise to capitulate and change the location of our August gathering.
The new location will be McCormick and Schmicks Harborside, located in the bottom of the AGC Building on Westlake near south Lake Union. They have a nice outdoor deck and a cigar-friendly bar.
The theme remains the same, "How can we make our meetings better?" I've received several suggestions but encourage you to "keep those cards and letters coming." Email me with your thoughts and ideas or write them down and bring them to the meeting. I hope that we will have some lively discussion about them.
Hope to see you at Harborside on August 12th, Thursday around 6-7pm.
July 1999
The management of Bridges Bar and Grill has requested that we come and see them again. It's always nice when someone extends an invitation, so, let's honor it.
Since Bridges has a very large and nice deck but a very small bar, we will make this meeting conditional as follows.
The date will be Tuesday, July 6th.
If the weather is good (warm & dry) we will meet at Bridges Bar and Grill on Eastlake (just south of the University Bridge) and partake of their large deck for an outdoor gathering. We did this last year and it was great.
However, since their bar is rather small, open to the rest of the restaurant and not set up well for our group. If the weather is not good (cold / wet) we will shift locations to McCormick and Schmicks Harborside on Westlake.
Harborside is located in the bottom of the AGC building, south Lake Union, about a block north of Jillians Pool hall.
The time will be 7:00 PM as usual.
June 1999
June 2nd, Wednesday. 7:00 pm
The next gathering will be on June 2nd at the downtown Seattle Rock Bottom. Hope to see many happy Seattle Smokers there.
May 1999
May 4th, Tuesday. 7:00 pm
It's time for a return visit to Dulce's Latin Bistro. Dulce's is a great little place in the North Madrona area. It is located at 34th and East Union. Take I-5, get on Madrona and go east until you hit Union St., veer right and follow East Union to 34th. Make a left and go one block. Dulce's is on the corner. We'll be in the cigar bar enjoying the great cuisine and the hospitality of Carlos, Eric and Vincente. Hope you can make it!
April 1999
April 7th, Wednesday. 7:00 pm
Time to venture out of Seattle! April's meeting will be held at the brand spanking new Rock Bottom Brewery in Bellevue. It is located near
Bellevue Square in the new Galeria on 106th (next door to Barnes &
Noble and Good Guys). Word of advice, don't park in the Good Guys'
parking lot. When you arrive, make your way to the upstairs bar and
stake out some turf. Hope to see you all there!

Dulce's is a wonderful place with a great menu of very creative dishes, prepared by Chef Julie. Carlos, Eric and Vincenté are always very fine hosts. We will not have the problem that we encountered last month at Il Bistro! The separate cigar room and extensive selection of fine smokes will attest to that. Hope to see you all there!

August 1997
Once again at the Pike Place Brewery. Considerably fewer people than July's bash, but still a very enjoyable time. The 89+° weather might have been a contributing factor, who knows? See you at Tini Bigg's in September!
July 1997
The July meeting was at the Pike Place Brewery. If you've ever been there, you know that the smoking room comfortably seats about five people. When we started to show up, the manager said "no problem, let's use the side room for you guys as well". So, we had about fifty people, drinking great beer, eating great food, all with a very friendly and upbeat staff. We had such a great time that we decided to do August there as well.
June 1997
While there were meetings in both April and May, we weren't able to go so I have nothing to report except rumors of a good time had by others. However, June's meeting at FX McRory's was great. An unforseen basketball game wreaked havoc on seating arrangements, but we re-took the Wall of Bourbon in record time. A pretty good turn-out with new and regular members alike. We look forward to July's meeting, a little later in the month due to the RTDA, at the Pike Place Brewery - see you there!
May 1997
The May meeting was held at FX McRory's
April 1997
The April meeting was held at Dulces Latin Bistro
March 1997
A fair-sized group met at the 'old homestead' of FX McRory's and enjoyed cigars, drinks and each other's company. The Seattle Smokers are eagerly anticipating Spring and the possibility of an outdoor get-together.
February 1997
The group that met at Tini Bigg's wasn't large (12-15) but they were enthusiastic and looking forward to smoking and discussing cigars. We had a visit from Steve Quinn and Muhammed Anwer Hasan from International Cigars & News (on 3rd Ave. in Seattle). They handed out some Flor de Filipas in the hopes of getting some unbiased feedback. The weather was nasty but the Seattle Smokers enjoyed themselves nonetheless.
January 1997
We met at the newly opened El Gaucho in Belltown
. They have created a very nice haven for smokers in their cigar lounge. Food was fantastic, drinks were great and the company was exceptional. Daniel Mickelson, the Seattle editor for Cigar Lifestyles joined us and he hopes to attend again.
P.S. Brian, where are you? We know you're alive, we saw you on TV doing "fireman stuff" - drop us a line, will ya?
December 1996
Cancelled on account of Holiday Blast '96-'97. Wow...everyone stayed home and smoked for warmth, praying for the power to come back on.

Another great meeting at our home at F X McRory's. Our good friends at Hugo Cassar sent us a care package with enough beautiful cigars for the entire group. Everyone, and I mean everyone raved about the construction, the flavor, the draw, and the overall experience.
March 1996
There were so many people.......... A lot of the core group have started little off shoot groups on the East Side. There were as many people from Tacoma as Seattle. FX McRory's has become our default home just because it's the only place that can hold all of us.

September 1995
Another great night for the Seattle Smoker at FX McRory's on Wednesday the 13th of September. Good news and bad news was that the Mariners were playing in the Kingdome so no one could find parking and the bar was VERY crowded. The upside was that we picked up two new members before the game started. During the game, which was being televised in the bar (we probably had better seats than that funky Kingdome), we had the exclusive attention of our fabulous server - Aristotle (in case Mary is watching).
August 1995 on the deck at Alki
It was a smaller group on the deck at Salty's on Alki on Saturday the 19th of August, but it was a good solid core group. It was a beautiful night overlooking the Seattle skyline. The meeting went for about five hours.
July 1995 (Thanks, Sean)
Seattle Smokers Strike Again!
The July 14th meeting at F.X. McRory's was a huge success. The group
faced the challenge of growing membership by adding table after table to
our meeting space. Not quite as intimate as previous gatherings, but it's
exciting to see the group expand beyond its Net core.
Uncle C.B. and Tony from
the Lane distrubtion company joined us and had a variety of cigars for the group
to try.
Fire Marshall and Exhultant Presidente Brian Hyatt made the rounds,
welcoming new members and relating adventures in fire fighting. Pipe
smoking membership is up. The food was good, and members continued their
exploration of McRory's galaxy of bourbons.
Cort showed us two candidates for the club logo, and their was a general
consensus that favored the black-and-white 'bookends' design.
The next meeting is on August 19th, our first Saturday, at Salty's on
Alki. Be there, or don't be cigar-shaped.
June 1995
This month we were at FX McRory's again.
